Spring

Get back to the basics this spring

Spring Photo

Flowers are in bloom, temperatures are rising, and we're slowly emerging from hibernation. And as we do, we're noticing (maybe for the 4th year in a row) that our homes need a little work. A fresh coat of paint, clearing out the clutter, or fixing a broken door.

From routine spring cleaning to more advanced remodels, LEAP can help you factor health, comfort and cost savings into those projects and take advantage of financing and limited-time cash rebates.

Tune up your air conditioner

The day when we first turn on our air conditioners isn't too far away, and if your unit has dirty coils, airflow problems or is simply too old and inefficient you'll pay for it in higher utility bills and an uncomfortable home this summer. Have a professional inspect and, if needed, change or clean the air filter.

Get your house checked for air leaks

Sealing cracks and openings will prevent warm air from leaking into your house this summer and keep the cold air out next winter.

Make the most of April showers

April showers may bring May flowers, but they can also lead to flooding in basements and crawlspaces. And that in turn can lead to some of those mold and mildew issues. Be sure to clear your gutters and extend down spouts to move the excessive runoff away from those areas of the house.

And now is a great time to purchase -- or build your own -- rain barrel so that you can harvest all that rainwater and reuse it for your lawn and garden.

Don't just blame it on the pollen

This is the time of year when allergy medicines fly off the shelves and cars are covered in yellow. But those allergies can also be flaring up because of mold and mildew issues in the house.
