The 2010 Charlottesville Area Home Energy Makeover Contest
The buzz in Charlottesville during the Summer of 2010 – as electricity bills soared alongside record heat – was energy efficiency.
More than 1,100 homeowners in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County entered LEAP’s Home Energy Makeover Contest. Ultimately 10 finalists received free home energy performance assessments valued at $400 each and, based on those results, two winners were selected. The Brooks and Kruse homes then underwent a complete home energy makeover.
You can still be a winner when it comes to your home’s energy efficiency. Learn how you can take advantage of LEAP’s customized support, certified contractors, limited-time rebates and financing offers.

Congratulations to Computers4Kids, Habitat for Humanity, and WriterHouse, winners of the Non-Profit Challenge in LEAP’s Home Energy Makeover Contest!
Co-sponsored by LEAP and the Center for Non-Profit Excellence, these local groups were awarded $1,000 each for their efforts to promote the contest to their members. More than 300 of the contest’s 1,100 contestants entered their favorite non-profit in the challenge. As LEAP’s Executive Director Cynthia Adams said, “More people were aware of this exciting home energy efficiency opportunity, and local non-profits won a cash prize. It was a win-win for our community."
